My first internet business

December 13th, 2007

The first internet business I started was a tech support forum.  I noticed that people were fed up with terrible tech support experiences and believed that I could provide a better solution online.

I created a technical support forum.  After a little bit of search engine marketing, the forum started to grow.  volunteers moderated the forum, website owners linked to the forum, and the number of registered posters and web traffic wouldn’t stop growing.

This kind of traffic and usage is every website owner’s dream.  Unfortunately, the amount of money I made each month was less than what I had hoped for.  People just weren’t buying enough new laptops or computer parts through the affiliate links on the forum to justify the time I spent on maintaining the site so I sold the domain name and forum to an active user.

My first online business failed.   It’s okay though, because I took the lessons learned and made my next online business a success.

My Internet Resume

December 11th, 2007

People often display a look of disbelief when I tell them that almost anyone smart enough to work a computer can make money online.  If they’d invest a little time and money into an online business, be it a blog, website publishing, domain flipping or ecommerce, they too can make money working from home.

I don’t blame them.  I wouldn’t believe it’s possible for the typical person to make money from home if someone hadn’t shown me how they made money on their website during the late 90’s.

Since then, I’ve been facinated with ways to make money online.  I’ve tried almost everything.  Domain investing, web pubslishing,  ecommerce, and recreational blogging.

Stay tuned.  I’m going to share my experiences and practical insights in future postings.
